Why Self-Care is Important?

"Self-care is a deliberate choice to gift our self with people, places, things, events, and opportunities that recharge our personal battery and promote whole health - body, mind, and spirit."
According to Wikipedia, self-care is any necessary human regulatory function which is under individual control, deliberate and self-initiated.
To be honest, self-care is a broad term that encompasses just about anything you do to be good to yourself.
It is about being kind to yourself as you would be to others.
It's also about knowing when your resources are running low, and replenishing all the energy lost rather than letting them all drain away.
Without this, our relationship with others can suffer tremendously.
No matter how indulgent or fancy the term may sound, self-care is crucial for our physical, emotional and mental well being.
You shouldn't neglect this and here's why:
* REDUCES STRESS
Though stress is a healthy way to serve a purpose, after a while, it can have an adverse effect on your mental and physical health.
Taking care of yourself means keeping your stress from taking over so you can function at full capacity.
* KNOWING YOUR WORTH
It is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself, sometimes we called self-love.
It produces positive feelings, which improves confidence and self-esteem too.
It is also a reminder to yourself and others that you and your needs are important too.
* RESISTANCE TO DISEASES
This is actually true and proven with evidence that self-care activities activate your Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS).
It helps your body to rejuvenate that helps fortify your immune system which means fewer colds, cases of flu, upset stomachs and prevention from other diseases.
Activities such as eating healthy, taking adequate sleep, caring for your hygiene and exercising regularly can help boost this.
PREVENTS BURNOUT
Anyone can be exhausted at some point in our lives.
It usually strikes people who are highly committed to their work and this one takes place over a longer period of time.
The consequences of burnout can be severe depending on how a person handles it.
It can lead to dropping your productivity dramatically and not only impacts your career, but it negatively impacts your team, organization, and family as well.
We've been all there when we push our self to the point we can't take it anymore so we just give up.
That's why self-care is very important because it helps people to avoid getting to that point.
* BETTER PRODUCTIVITY
Self-care helps you stay centered and grounded in who you are and what you want.
It is an investment provided by you and for you.
And without it, things can get ugly.
When you learn to say 'no' to things that over-extend you and start making time for things that matter more, your slow life down in a wonderful way.
In this way, it helps you to achieve your goals into sharper focus and helps you to concentrate on what you're doing.
