The holiday season is coming fast approaching, and let us not make the rush and excitement of the holiday season makes us careless in protecting ourselves and our home from a potential mishap. Since the holiday season is a time when people become busy and tend to forget some things to consider at home, the following tips can help you and your family be more careful, prepared, and aware during the holiday season.
* Make sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector, smoke alarm, fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit. If you live in an apartment or are staying in a hotel, know where the fire alarms and emergency exits are located.
* Never leave burning candles unattended and keep them away from children and pets, decorations, and wrapping paper. Cut candle wicks short to prevent a high flame, and if candles are used in a centerpiece, make sure they don't burn low enough to ignite the decoration.
* When decorating the Christmas Tree, use lights that have been certified by a recognized organization such as CSA, ULC, or C-UL. Make sure you use indoor lights inside your home and outdoor lights outside. Check the light strings and extension cords, throwing out any that are frayed or have exposed wires, loose connections, or broken sockets.
* Never run electrical cords through doorways or under carpets and turn off all holiday lights before you go to bed or leave your home.
* When buying gifts, make sure that it is age-appropriate especially for kids and also for safety.
* When leaving the house or apartment during holidays, make sure that the windows and doors are properly locked to prevent thief going inside.
* While outside buying presents and preparations for the holiday, make sure to bring enough money and listed down the things to buy to save time and energy. Also, be aware of using debit and credit cards as some people during these times are taking advantage and might hack or steal the information on this. Be vigilant when outside and be extra careful with your purses, bags, and wallet.
* Knowing first aid could save a life. Getting yourself a basic course from Philippine Red Cross is a great starter.
* Be prepared for natural disasters or typhoons that may occur before the holiday season. Getting informed thru news and social media would be a benefit to prepare for such.
* Don't leave the stove and oven unattended while cooking. BEKO Built-In Ovens is highly recommended wherein you can see what's going on while cooking your dish to prepare on holiday. It has Halogen Illumination that helps you see all your oven’s cavity, so you can keep an eye on your culinary creations with the door firmly shut. You can opt to do shopping for an Oven Online.
Above all else, protect yourself and others from getting the flu and COVID. Stay away from crowded places, wear your mask and face shield and observe social distancing while outside or while in a family gathering.
